Who am I?

I’m Matt, a children's writer originally from Lancashire who writes feel-good, fictional, picture book texts. I work in IT by day and write picture books in whatever time I can find outside of that!

My first book, ‘Inspector Earwig & The Garden Thief’, was published in 2024, and my second book, ‘Beyond the Hive’ released in 2025. Both books are illustrated by an amazing artist, Anastasia Wright. I have always enjoyed writing and have two little ones who are the inspiration behind creating these stories.

I’ve been fortunate to visit so many schools and have hopefully inspired many kids, especially in KS1, to create their own characters and write their own stories!

My biggest writing achievement outside of this so far was being longlisted for the 2025 WriteMentor Novel & Picture Book Awards.
